The purposes of this study is to compare response patterns of two groups, a group of schizophrenic and a group of non-schizophrenic, in S-HTP drawing test. Total number of participants was 100. 50 participants were from schizophrenic patients hospitalized in the closed ward, 50 were from non-schizophrenic (normal) people. SPSS 12.0 was used for statistical analysis and each evaluation section was analyzed by Χ2 test.
Results of this study were summarized as followings: 1. A group of schizophrenic and a group of non-schizophrenic showed a different patterns on total shape in response patterns through S-HTP drawing test. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in integrity, amendment, sense of perspective, drawing pressure, line, shape, and additional figures. 2. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in the shape of house, existence and non-existence of window and door, existence and non-existence of roof, a sense of stability, and additional figures. 3. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in the shape of tree, in particular, in the shape of crown, trunk, and branch. 4. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in the shape of man, in particular, distinction of sex, simplification, distinction of shape, movement, number of man, size of man, facial expression, and direction of man. The implications of this study can be summarized to provide preliminary data to assist appropriate introductory intervention in examinee's psychological situation.
