This thesis is to inquire into the effect of art therapy and art education on the art ability and the
pro-social behavior of children. The subject is 18 children, who receive lectures on art in a private academy. For them, this program is carried out during 80 sessions. For the comparison of the effect, arranged as art therapy group, and art education group. And the two groups have the different objectives and course with same subject matter. The therapeutic objective and method are set up for the art therapy group, The educational objective is set up for the art education group, and this group has no therapeutic treatment. The art ability research tools used to measure and the measure the pro-social behavior are carried out before and after this program. During this program, the change in their pictures and attitudes is observed, and the interviews with parents are carried out. The data materials are analyzed by SPSS(ver.17.0 for Windows), by which t-test is carried out to find out the difference of the two groups. The results are, Firstly, the art therapy program improves the art ability of children more than the art education program. Though the researchers exercises restraint in the teachings for improving their expressional ability, their scale in the expressional ability is increased. It means that the art therapy program is also effective on the improvement of art expression ability.
When the psychological cares are carried out for the children by adding the art therapeutic treatment, the art activity, appreciative ability, expressional ability of them is supposed to improve, and then the whole art ability is improved. Secondly, the art therapy program improves the pro-social behavior of children more than the art education program. It means that accept themselves, heighten the participation degree in the group, keep the more sound relationship with others is helpful for the improvement of the pro-social behavior.
