이 연구의 목적은 대표적인 시각장애인 대체도서 유형인 전자도서 제작에 필요한 표준 지침을 개발하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 김영일 등(2009)의 전자도서 제작비용 산정 연구 결과를 소개하였다. 다음으로 전자도서의 개념, 구체적 제작 과정, 제작 기본 원칙, 사용자들이 쉽게 활용할 수 있는 매뉴얼 형태의 세부 제작 지침 등을 제시하였다. 끝으로 전자도서 제작 지침과 비용 산정 관련 후속연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.
