"The purpose of this study is to explore the factors influencing on the job retention among personal assistants for people with disabilities. For this study, in-depth interviews of 10 personal assistants were conducted and its results were analysed by objective hermeneutics developed by Oevermann.
What the factors impact positively on the retention are found as follows: 1) the previous experience about disability, 2) the feeling of rewarding about Personal assistance services(PAS), 3) accompanying relationships with PAS organizations or users of PAS, or human- relationships, 4) social sanction as a specialist, 5) individual autonomy of provision of PAS, and 6) empathy for PAS users.
On the basis of the results, it would be strongly suggested that reconsidering the content of the PAS education, building the supporting system for personal assistants, promoting social marketing about postive
aspects of PAS and personal assistants to people in community and nation, and finally providing education of PAS to people with disabilities.
