This study was conducted to know the recent study trend of visual impairments. We analyzed Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, an internationally well-known journal, and found that the research on visual impairments focused on 9 themes such as education, O&M, braille, independent living, assistive technology, the effect of visual impairments, health and rehabilitation, family, and the diagnose and assessment of visual impairments. The review of literature shows that there were a lot of studies on the adults with visual impairments and related persons as well as children with visual impairments. Many experimental studies and surveys were also used for the research methods for these studies. In addition, there were many studies on people with visual impairments with additional disabilities. In conclusion, it is necessary to be conducted in a variety of ways in themes, research object, the types of visual impairments for the development of the studies on visual impairments in South Korea.
