This study aims to analyse the effect of Dance/Movement Therapy(DMT)
on internalization and adjustment to school life of multi-cultural children. For
the study, 24 children from multi-cultural families and 18 ones from
non-multi-cultural families who are attending to general classes were
randomly selected and categorized into test group and control group. They
participated in DMT twice a week and a total of 24 sessions for 12 weeks.
For the internalization, the study used Korean Youth Self Report(K-YSR)
and for adjustment to school life, an adaptation sheet was used. For a data
analysis, SPSS 14.0 was used and independent samples t-test and paired
-samples t-test were carried. As a result, the following results were obtained:
First, There was a significant difference in shrinking, depression and
anxiety between the two groups (p<.05). Second, The difference was
significantly decreased through the therapy. (p<.05). Third, There was a
significant difference in studying and friendship between the two groups
(p<.05). Fourth, The studying and friendship were significantly improved
through the therapy(p<.05). In conclusion, as multi-cultural children were
negatively exposed to problems such as internalization and school adjustment
and it was discovered that DMT brought positive changes to internalization
and school adjustment through this study, it is suggested that DMT can be
effectively used as an education program for multi-cultural children.
