The purpose of this study was to understand the symbolic meaning of foods used in the sandtray by a 10 year-old girl who was neglected by her parents. Her sandplay therapy sessions were offered as charity programs in a nearby social welfare office. This research was done from an analytical psychologist’s point of view with a hermeneutic method. the following understandings were found as the result of this study: ‘Gourmet food’ symbolized ‘gaining strength and being warmly received by others’. ‘Sweet dessert dish made with rice’ symbolized ‘healing by love’. ‘Kimchi’ meant ‘being integrated and maturing’ and ‘birthday cake’ meant ‘a wonderful and blessed life’. Also, the implications of the results were discussed.
