This study was intended to perform the group art treatment program reflecting reminiscence therapy,and thus investigate the effects of the program on the quality of life of the elderly with mild dementia living in health care centers. The study subjects were the elderly aged more than 65, who have stayed in D center located at Daegu, and whose MMSE-K points were 20-23 points meaning that they have mild dementia. So, this study was conducted on a total of 14 elderly people, among which 7 people participated into the group art treatment program reflecting reminiscence therapy as a test group, and 7 others didn't as a control group. The test had been conducted twelve times once a week from August to October, 2011.
Each test was undertaken for about 50 minutes. The measure tools being applied to the subjects were Mini-Mental State Examination standardized by Yong-cheol Gwon and Jong-han Park (1989) and GQOL-Dreconfigured by Su-min Lee (2006) based on the measure tool for the quality of life of the elderly with dementia, which was developed by The Korean Geriatrics Society, and the study results were measured by Repeated Measure ANOVA. The results of this study are presented as follows. The result showed that the group art treatment reflecting reminiscence therapy was effective in increasing the entire score of the quality of life of the elderly with mild dementia living in health care centers. As shown in the results, the group art treatment reflecting reminiscence is effective in improving the quality of life of the elderly with mild dementia living in health care centers.
