The purpose of the study was to examine the changes in the use of self-determination skills of adults with developmental disabilities who participated in self-directed leisure program. Participants were 6 adults with developmental disabilities attending lectures at H-university Lifelong Education Center.
The research design used qualitative analysis method. For the qualitative data, the progress of the program was observed and recorded, and the data obtained interviews, activities performed, and pictures.
Research shows that the self-directed leisure program has a positive change in the use of the selection skills, self-advocacy skills, and self-management skills of adults with developmental disabilities. Self-directed leisure program participants showed differences among individuals in choice-making skills, self-advocacy skills, self-management skills.
And it was confirmed that the degree of utilization of self-determination ability of participants according to the content of leisure activity program.
In conclusion, when designing a self-directed leisure activity program, it is necessary to differentiate the approach according to individual s intellectual ability and disability level.
It is also more effective to apply the leisure activity program according to the topic of interest.
