The purpose of this study was to examine what is experienced in the art therapy process of art gifted students with evaluative concerns perfectionism. For this purpose, a 12-year-old art gifted female student with evaluative concerns perfectionism was selected as a research participant, and a total of 12 art therapy sessions were conducted once a week from March, 2022 to July, 2022. Data collection was done through the recorded file, observational records and field memos, clinical journals, in-depth interviews, experiential interviews and artworks. All collected data were analyzed using the constant comparison method. As a result of this study, 4 upper themes could be induced together with 12 sub-themes: ‘I harbor a hidden mind’, ‘I recognize me who struggles to live a perfect life, being conscious of people’s attention’, ‘I accept me candidly, accommodating the diversity’and ‘I have got the power of facing the future hopefully’. In this process, the participant could vent out and relieve her negative emotion suppressed due to the fear of others’evaluation of her and thus, could have a new perspective into her viewpoint rather than assess herself from others’ perspectives. In addition, her cognition rigid and controlled would change with a higher psychological flexibility. Namely, she could discover a positive resource and creative energy facing the future hopefully, instead of fear and apprehension. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
