생애능력이란 우리가 변화하는 환경 및 새로운 역할에 부응하여 충만 된 삶을 살기 위해 반드시 갖추어야 할 능력이라 할 수 있다. 성인들이 생활 적응능력을 계속적으로 습득해야 한다는 인식에 기초한 생애기술의 습득은 성인의 삶의 질 향상에 중요한 함 의를 갖는다. 생애기술에 관한 선행 연구는 주로 문해와 기능 문해의 개념에서 진화하 여 직업능력개발을 위한 국가자격제도 등 거시적 차원의 연구에 치중해 왔다. 가족의 삶의 질 향상이 개인의 삶에 시사하는 부분이 지대함을 고려할 때, 부모역할 수행을 위 한 생애기술의 향상은 중요한 의의를 갖는다. 본 연구는 부모역할 수행능력의 함양이라 는 미시적 차원의 생애기술에 관하여 논의하였다. 이는 부모역할이 성인기의 발달과업 에서 차지하는 비중이 매우 크며, 또한 부모역할의 성공적 수행이 성인의 발달과업의 성취에 중요하므로 성인교육으로서 부모교육의 의의를 강화하기 위한 시도라 할 수 있 다. 특히 자녀수의 감소에도 불구하고 우리나라에서 자녀양육의 어려움이 증가하는 현 실을 고려할 때 부모역할을 위한 지식과 기술은 반드시 필요한 생애기술로 파악될 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 효율적인 부모역할 수행을 지원하기 위한 기제로서 지금까지 주로 아동교육 영역에서 개발․실시되어 오던 부모교육을 성인교육 적 차원에서 새롭 게 고안․시행할 것을 강조하였다. 또한 본 연구는 성인교육으로서 새로운 부모교육 프 로그램 모듈을 개발하여 성인기의 핵심적인 생애기술로 개발할 것을 주장하였다. 아울 러 부모역할을 위한 생애기술교육을 실현하기 위하여 부모교육프로그램 모듈에 포함되 는 생애기술의 내용과 모듈의 진행과정 등을 기술하였다. 이와 함께 지금까지 우리나 라에서 실시되어 온 부모교육 프로그램을 조명하고 부모역할 수행에 영향을 미쳐온 우 리나라의 시대 상황적 맥락의 변화를 기술한 후, 우리나라에서 실시되어온 부모교육프 로그램을 고찰하였다. 또한 부모역할에 필요한 핵심기술을 생애기술로 부각시키기 위한 프로그램 개발의 전문성 강화를 위해 대학의 적극적 참여를 제안하였다.
The purpose of this paper was four folds: first, describe and analyze the changing context of parenting and parent education programs in Korea; second, advocate a new way to develop parent education as a promising field of adult education; third, identify and develop successful skills of parenting as life skills; and fourth, propose the new parent education modules of adult education for effective parenting. In Korea, parent education has been developed as a part of child education. However, considering the fact that parenthood consists of a critical part of adulthood, parent education needs to be established as an important domain of adult education. Moreover, as most of Korean parents have needs for adequate knowledge and skills of parenting, parent education could be valuable in building life skills of adult education. In this paper, in order to support parents to build life skills of effective parenting, two new parent education modules have been introduced with procedures and methodology. The major emphases of the modules have been placed on enabling parents to view themselves as adults and parents and to equip them with life skills of adult education.
