The purpose of this paper was four folds: first, describe and analyze the changing
context of parenting and parent education programs in Korea; second, advocate a new
way to develop parent education as a promising field of adult education; third, identify
and develop successful skills of parenting as life skills; and fourth, propose the new
parent education modules of adult education for effective parenting. In Korea, parent
education has been developed as a part of child education. However, considering the fact
that parenthood consists of a critical part of adulthood, parent education needs to be
established as an important domain of adult education. Moreover, as most of Korean
parents have needs for adequate knowledge and skills of parenting, parent education
could be valuable in building life skills of adult education. In this paper, in order to
support parents to build life skills of effective parenting, two new parent education
modules have been introduced with procedures and methodology. The major emphases of
the modules have been placed on enabling parents to view themselves as adults and
parents and to equip them with life skills of adult education.
