본 연구는 국내외 성인교육학의 최근 연구동향을 살펴보기 위해 2005년부터 2014년까지 「Andragogy Today」에 게재된 291편과 「평생교육학연구」에 게재된 317편, 「Adult Education Quarterly」에 게재된 166편의 연구논문을 대상으로 총 774편의 연구논문을 내용분석 하였다. 이때 선행연구 검토를 토대로 제1저자의 특성, 연구주제, 연구방법을 분석준거로 하였다. 연구결과, 국내의 경우 제1저자의 남성비율이 51.4%, 단독연구 형태가 59.0%, 수도권이 67.9%, 대학소속이 80.7%인 것으로 나타났다. 연구주제는 성인학습자에 대한 연구가 20.9%로 가장 많았고, 연구방법은 문헌연구가 39.0%로 가장 많이 활용된 것으로 나타났다. 한편 국외의 경우는 제1저자의 여성비율이 59.1%, 단독연구 형태가 53.0%, 영어권이 80.7%, 대학소속이 95.2%인 것으로 나타났다. 연구주제는 성인학습자에 대한 연구가 27.1%로 가장 많았고, 연구방법은 질적연구가 51.2%로 가장 많이 활용되어 국내연구동향과 차별성을 보여주었다. 최근 들어 국내외 공통적으로 여성연구자, 공동연구, 질적연구, 성인학습자 및 성인교수-학습 관련연구가 증가 추세인 것으로 나타났다.
The intent of this study is to understand research trends of adult education and compare international and domestic adult education research. The researcher conducted an content analysis of all published research articles to Andragogy Today, Journal of Lifelong Education, and Adult Education Quarterly from 2005 to 2014. Research trends for the previous decade included continued dominance of male, single-author submission from Metropolitan area of Seoul, and academic in Korean adult education field. Also, literature review method and adult learner related research covered high percentage in Korean adult education research. While, research trends for the previous decade were characterized by continued dominance of academic, female, and single-author submission from four Anglophone countries(U.S.A., Canada, UK, Australia) in international adult education field. Also, qualitative research method and adult learner related research covered high percentage in international adult education research. However, there have been in increasing number of submissions by women, of a qualitative research design, multiple-authors, and on topics of adult learner and teaching and learning in both international and domestic adult education.
