The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand how internship experiences affect the career preparation of female college students. The constant comparative method of data analysis was applied to person to person in-depth interviews of 12 female college students who participated in internship programs. Female students who had participated in an internship program mentioned that they were able to get a better understanding of an organization, a more solid understanding of their career personality through hands-on experience, and a more realistic view of women’s issues in workplace. Based on this learning, they experienced meaningful changes in career preparation after the internship. Many got to better grasp the meaning of work, and even reconsider their criteria for choosing jobs. They made more specific and extended preparations for their career and were motivated their major subjects. Internship experiences can help female college students to break the myth of successful career women that had made them focus more on the external image of career women. By doing so, the experience enables female college students to have more realistic perception of career. Since the internship experience provides an opportunity for female college students to certify their aptitude, it empowered them to rely on their own decisions in pursuing careers. Finally, the internship experiences help them to overcome the "objective score-earning" way of career preparation by making them exert themselves to acquire competences needed for working in organizations.
