The Ancient Greeks are considered in many aspect as an ancestor, in areas of philosophy, culture, art and so on. Especially in education activities and learning style they were the most creative people in the world. They understood education and learning as the most meaningful activity of human being and they practiced it as a way of maintaining individuality and society. Education played special role in the Ancient Greece, so the history of it can be grasped in view of history of education. No country can be escaped from the influence of education of Greeks. They indeed had the prototype of andragogy, which can be substituted for pedagogy or which at least complete the tasks of pedagogy.
Andragogy is defined as a learning style, which includes various kinds of education and learning channels, to form the character of learners and in the long run to transform them. In brief, it means the integration of life and learning: learning in life and life in learning. Life and learning can not be separated. In this view point, the Ancient Greeks were the first andragogy
learners and the first andragogy educators, who practiced learning in their daily life. They considered education and learning as an unfinished and endless procedure. Agora and Theater were the very important learning places for them. And Socrates and Plato, the representatives of the educational philosophy of Greece, were the andragogy educators and educationists. The study is concentrated on examining the elements of andragogy in the education of the Ancient Greeks.
