Our education systems rely on private education more than necessary. Critical perspectives on the private education are dominant in the society but there is no systematic approach to reduce the private education. The most important reason why we rely on the private education is to enhance academic achievement. There can be many reasons for the private education to enhance academic achievement but study skill can be one of the reasons. The study tried to find useful information by examining the effects of private education types on the study skills. The study randomly selected 316 elementary school students and diagnosed their study skills according to the types of private education. The results of this study indicate that private education affects on the study skills. The students who took the private education showed statistically significant high scores in every five sub-categories of the study skills: self-managing, instruction participating, task solving, test-taking, and information processing. Second, the types of private education affect on the study skills. The most affecting type of private education was paper-based self studying and then cyber learning, private tutoring, and private institution are the next order of influence. The effects of private education were also different according to the sub-categories of study skills. The study comes to the conclusion that the private education provide students with the opportunity to redesign learning contents by themselves and do self-regulated learning therefore enhance study skills. Therefore we need to provide students with the same opportunity systematically in public education system so that they can enhance their academic achievement without the assistance of private education.
