Multidimensional aspects on the historical phenomenon is rightly being emphasized in
history education. But it is rarely followed up in history classrooms, and ways of realizing it
in classrooms have not been sufficiently discussed.
This study aims to develop teaching and learning methods for multidimensional
understanding of imperialism applicable to history classrooms. Imperialism can be a good
candidate for this job, because multidimensional aspects of imperialism such as complex
cultural changes and interdependence have been explored.
Multidimensional aspects of historical phenomenon can effectively be revealed by introducing
new interpretations on imperialism in history classrooms. This study aims to develop teaching
and learning methods applicable to secondary school classrooms.
Using the proposed teaching and learning guidelines, students will be able to attempt diverse
interpretations of historical phenomena, to nurture their own understanding of history, and get
nearer to multidimensional understanding of history by reconstructing historical interpretations.
