The symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) comprise one of the most common constellations of presenting problems of children who are referred for treatment to clini cal and specialized educational programs. The purpose of this paper is to review practical issues involved in the behavioral treatment of ADHD. First, a brief overview of ADHD and the traditional strategies that have been used to treat thi s disorder are outline. Second, a sampling of pharmacological treatment approaches and their efficacy are discussed. Third, a detailed presentation on behavioral methods of treatment is provided, including the advantages and disadvantages of behavioral treatments, variables that influence outcomes, evidence for treatment efficacy, a review of parent training techniques, and a summary table of ADHDtreatment methods, their components, advantages, and potential problems.
