The purpose of the present study was to predict their successful school performances through
academic achievement and personality of the mentally retarded. To accomplish this goal, the first step was to develop items using implict approach about school-related performances, and then was administered standardized academic intelligence(KEDI-WISC III) and personality(EZPQ).
Responses of 186 students with mental retardation in P city were collected. The data were mainly analyzed through Pearson relationship, stepwise regression methods. The results are as follows:
There was lower relationship the between academic intelligence and school. Besides, Personality was main predictor on school performance of students with mental retardation(R2=.19). Especially,
sub-components as effectance motivation, curiosity, outer- directedness effected to their successful school performance. Therefore, Personality was a useful construct in the prediction of school-related adjustment of the mentally retarded.
