본 연구에서는 초등학생들이 부산에 위치한 두 공립 과학관을 견학하고 전시물에 대해 어떻게 생각하는지에 대해 조사하였다. 어린이회관과 과학교육원을 방문하여 관람을 한 초등학생을 대상 으로 설문을 실시하였으며 그 결과, 학생들은 교과의 내용과 자신의 경험에 기초한 과학적 원리를 다룬 내용을 선호하였고 체험위주의 조작 방식을 선호하였다. 또 전시물이 학교 과학 수업에 도움 이 될 것이라고 기대하는 것으로 조사되었다. 또한 교사들의 교수-학습에 있어 과학관 이용실태와 참여하고 싶은 프로그램, 부산 국립 과학관 에 대한 요구에 대해서도 조사하였다. 부산광역시에 소재한 초등학교의 교사들을 대상으로 하였으 며 설문 결과, 교사들은 절반 가까이가 교수-학습과정에서 과학관을 이용해보지 못하였으며 그 이 유는 교통의 불편함과 여러 가지 안전사고 등이 우려되어 이용하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 교사 들은 위탁 과학관 체험 프로그램을 선호하고 있으며 대부분 교사들은 부산지역에 국립 과학관이나 소형 테마 과학관이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 본 연구의 시사점은 다음과 같다. 1) 학교 과학 수업과 유기적으로 연결되게 과학관 이용 프로 그램을 조직해야 한다. 2) 과학관이 여러 연령대를 수용할 수 있게 전시물을 수준별로 나누고 관람 대상에 따라 특화하려는 노력이 필요하다. 3) 신설 과학관은 접근성이 좋은 곳에 위치할 필요가 있고, 찾아가는 서비스 등의 노력이 필요하다. 4) 과학관을 지속적으로 학교 정규 교육에 적극적 으로 이용하도록 노력해야 한다.
The purpose of this study was to analyze elementary students\' perceptions about the most and the least favorite exhibits selected by student as visitors. Two science centers investigated were the Busan Institude of Science Education & Busan Childpia. Students\' responses indicated that they most favored hands-on exhibits. Students preferred the exhibits that had new and comprehensible content and were related to what they had learded in school. Students said that they came to experience what they could not in school. This study also examines the elementary school teachers\' present utilizations of science centers in teaching-learning and their perceptions of the educational program in science center. The results indicate that teachers have not utilized science centers as intimately as possible with formal instruction; therefore, the students\' experiences of science centers are usually limited. The main reasons for lower usage of science centers in their teaching and learning are because of the long distances involved and anxiety over possible accidents. The elementary school teachers prefer to commit to a program such as science camps or experiment activities, and those exhibitions which have some kind of clear and discernible relation to the school curriculum. The results also indicate that most teachers want to participate in the various activities of science centers. They welcome the establishment of the new Busan national science center that contains hands-on exhibits. They also hope it offers mobile services.
