The purpose of this study was to analyze structural relationships between
presidents' leadership, administrators' positive psychological capital, self-directed
learning and leadership at private universities in order to seek for the
administrators' leadership development.
To achieve the purpose, the collected data at 20 private universities were analyzed
with structural equation modeling using Amos(18.0) and Mplus(6.0) programs.
The major findings of this study from SEM were as follows. First, presidents'
leadership had a direct positive influence on administrators' positive psychological
capital. Second, presidents' leadership had a direct positive influence on
administrators' self-directed learning and had a indirect positive influence through
the intervening variable of positive psychological capital. Third, presidents'
leadership had a direct positive influence on administrators' leadership and had
indirect positive influences through the intervening variables of administrators'
positive psychological capital and self-directed learning.
Conclusions from the major findings of this study demonstrated the existence
of positive influences of presidents' leadership, administrators' positive
psychological capital and self-directed learning with leadership at private
universities. In particular, presidents' leadership had the most influential effect on
administrators' leadership. In addition, administrators' positive psychological capital
and self-directed learning were found to be significant mediating variables.
