It was the purpose of this study to find what kinds and degree of stress the elementary
school students in first year had at a school and how the class teachers who were teaching
those students recognized students\' stress. And the purpose of the study also focused on
preferred methods that the class teachers have used to decrease those stresses for the students.
The subjects were students (n=278) in the first year who attending to elementary school and
class teachers (n=48) who were teaching those students in Koyang city. A survey questionnaire
were consisted of 3 instruments: \"the factor and level of stress for the students\", \"the prediction
of students\' stress for the class teachers\", and the role of the effective class teachers for
decreasing the stress\".
The results of this study were as follows:
First of all, the most serious stress is that the students were receipted the stress from their
classmates. And there was no statistically significant difference between female and male
students.
Secondly, female class teachers have more specifically recognized students\' stress than male
teachers have.
Thirdly, the class teachers who have experienced with teaching in the first year for 4 - 5
years at an elementary school recognized the stress the same as the students felt. The teachers
who have been teaching in the elementary school for 11 - 15 years correctly predicted the stress
that the students felt.
The last result of this study was that for each type of stress, the teacher mostly preferred
educationally supporting methods: \"building of friendship\", \"the interaction through games for
promotion, \"the teaching of using school facilities\", \"establishing accepted atmosphere\",
\"building emotional stabilization\", and \"providing motive to follow the rules\".
