The purpose of this study is to demonstrate actual effects of yoga and
dance meditation program upon stress felt by middle-aged women. In order
to achieve the above purpose, this study conducted an experiment with total
54 middle-aged women (at age ranging from 50 to 64) residing in K city,
Gyeongbuk province, Korea. These subjects were divided into two groups,
such as. experiment group (28 subjects) and control group(26 subjects).
Then, the experiment group was asked to participate in total 36 sessions of
a yoga and dance meditation program from Sept. 28 to Dec. 17, 2010). To
verify potential effects of the yoga and dance meditation program, this study
used a stress inventory for repeated measurement in form of pretest,
intermediate test, posttest and follow-up test. For the statistical analysis,
repeated measures of ANOVA was introduced. The results are follows: First,
yoga and dance meditation program were effective in improving social role
performance and self-confidence of middle-aged women. Secondly, the result
indicates that yoga and dance meditation program is effective in relieving
middle-aged women from depression. Thirdly, yoga and dance meditation
program is effective in alleviating middle-aged women from sleep disorder
and anxiety. Lastly, yoga and dance meditation program is effective in
improving general health and vitality of middle-aged women. Therefore,
findings of this study indicate that yoga and dance meditation program is
effective in alleviating middle-aged women from stress.
