Purpose: The purpose of this study is to discover the constituents and the structure of adaptation experience of Chinese students studying abroad in Korea, providing necessary information for instructional intervention. Methods: The participants of this study were 5 Chinese students in korea – three male and two female students. Data were collected from in-depth interviews and were analyzed using the Giorgi's phenomenological analysis methods. Results: Adaptation experience of participants was summarized and divided into four categories: 'vague expectation for the future', 'problem due to confrontation with conflicts and regrets', 'reflection on the purpose of studying abroad', and 'readjustment for the future'. Causative, accelerative, and recursive characteristics were shown among the categories, and adaptation process was structuralized in the temporal context. Conclusion: Based on the result, adaptive factors conforming to the essential constituents must be developed, and a practical support system that strengthens such factors must be constructed.
