The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between internalizing and externalizing
problems according to the subtypes of children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
The subject of this study were 71children diagnosed as ADHD in clinical centers and their
mothers. The subtypes of children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder were classified by
Korean-ADHD Rating Scale(K-ARS). To measure internalizing and externalizing problems in children
with ADHD, Korean-Child Behavior Checklist(K-CBCL) was applied. The data was analyzed by
t-test.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, the proportion of Combined type(ADHD-C) was higher than that of Predominantly
inattention type(ADHD-PI).
Second, ADHD-PI has higher rate of internalizing problems than ADHD-C. However, Anxious/
Depressed factor, the sub-factor of internalizing problems, has no significant differences between
ADHD-PI and ADHD-C.
Third, ADHD-C has higher rate of externalizing problems than ADHD-PI. And also ADHD-C
showed higher rate of the sub-factors of externalizing problems than ADHD-PI.
