The purpose of this study is to review Korean researches on the concept of the people with
disabilities through the picture books and the effects of the disability understanding program for
preschool children. While it is contained a lot of prejudice contents against the characters with
disabilities in Korean folk tales picture books, disabled characters were described more positive,
realistic perspectives in Korean created children's picture books. Furthermore, the effects of activities
including discussion, role play, writing, painting by using the picture books related to the disabilities
were positive on the cognitive acceptance attitudes of children. But there was no influence on
preschooler's acceptance attitudes toward disabled peers after only reading handicapped related tales.
