The purpose of this study was to analyzed the situation and needs on education
supports of students with low vision in visual impaired schools, and to suggested the
improvement plans to ensure the effective education supports. The results of this
study were that: (a) the situation on the education supports in the area of the school
accommodation, teaching environment supports, teaching and learning materials, visual
supporting materials, expanded core curriculums, and professional staff was not satisfied
to teach the low vision students in the visual impaired schools; (b) the needs on the
education supports were various in the area of the school accommodation, teaching
environment supports, lighting fixtures and intensity of illumination, seating placement,
expanded core curriculums, professional staff, and supporting center for low vision
students; and (c) the improvement plan to ensure the effective education supports of the
low vision students in the visual impaired schools were suitable of the low vision students’
needs and characteristics in the area of school accommodation, learning environments
supports, teaching and supporting materials, assessment of the low vision, expanded
core curriculums, professional staff, and supporting center for low vision students.
