The purpose of the study is to survey the perceptions and the actual conditions and need for improvement for
character education in university students. A total of 160 university students(94 male, 66 female) participated in
this study. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. And the other purpose of the study is to
suggest the character education by combining project class with reality therapy for university students. This study
suggests the project class based on concepts of reality therapy (human relationships, quality world, needs etc)
which can apply to university lectures on the basis of questionnaire results. Through this project class, cultivation
of character can be expected to be achieved. Questionnaire results of this study are difficult to generalize in
interpreting the research results because the targets for investigation are limited to D metropolitan city. Moreover,
on the basis of the questionnaire results, with subjects (courtesy, solicitude) which should be improved in education
of humanism, as the center, by finding connections between many concepts of reality therapy and project class,
this study can suggest various models which are appropriate to students’ levels. Project class of appropriate subject
to university students can raise student’s motivation and interests and can be predicted to make positive effects of
self-directed learning.
