이 글은 유사한 동양권의 문화를 가진 동아시아 국가들 중에서도 일본의 시민성 교육에 초점을 맞추어 일본의 현재 교육에서 중점으로 육성하고자 하는 인간상과 이를 실현하기 위한 시민성 교육에 대해 살펴보고 그에 대한 분석과 함께 그것이 한국 청소년의 시민성 교육에 어떠한 함의를 전해줄 수 있는지에 대해 논한다. 일본이 현재 교육을 통해 중점적으로 키우고자 하는 인간상은 ‘전인적 인 간'과 ‘애국적 인간'으로 요약할 수 있다. 급변하는 사회 속에서 폭력에 매몰되 어 가는 청소년들을 교육을 통해 구조하기 위하여 일본은 ‘살아가는 힘'을 강 조, 이를 통해 확실한 학력, 풍부한 마음, 건강한 몸의 조화를 이루고자 하였다. 동시에 교육기본법 개정을 통해 일본인으로서의 국가 정체성과 ‘애국'에 대한 명문 규정을 삽입하여 애국적 인간을 기르기 위한 노력에 박차를 가하였다. 두 가치는 정반대의 함의를 전달한다. 첫째, ‘살아가는 힘'은 우리 교육 환 경에서도 중시되어야 할 가치를 명시적으로 보여주는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 두 번째 ‘애국 강조' 물론 필요한 가치이지만, 그것은 세계와의 상호연관 속에서 이해되어야 것으로 우리 시민성 교육의 반면교사로 작용할 수 있을 것이다.
The purpose of this article is to derive the implications of citizenship education for theKorea's youth, through a comparisonwith Japanese citizenship education The main foci of citizenship education in Japan today are "vitality" and "patriotic education". Vitality is very extensive and inclusive concept to live an ordinary life in the 21st century and in the field of citizenship education. Vitality is consisted of three elements; problem-solving, humanity and health. Now is the time that school violence often occurs, and youths are suffering for this. Therefore, vitality is a concept that may be good for Korea's youth. Patriotic education is necessary for the formation of national identity. However, Youths need to interact with the someone in the other countries in an era of in an era of internationalization. In this regard, it can be said that global citizenship ismore required for the youth.
