Traditionally, HRD consultants and practitioners have utilized DACUM (Developing A Curriculum)
and CBC (Competency-Based Curriculum) when developing the structure of job and competency and
planning the training programs for specific jobs. The purpose of this study is to combine these two
technics- DACUM and CBC, and develop a hybrid methodology. Previous studies have been also divided
into the cases adopting DACUM or CBC. However, thesedays, we often found some cases that require
to utilize both of two technics at the same time, specifically when the client requests not only job
analysis but also competency modeling and e-HRD system that make possible of competency-based
assessment and individual development plan. In spite of these cases, there was no structured procedures
and tool kits to follow easily. Therefore, this study reviewed previous literatures regarding DACUM and
CBC and considered the possibilities to combine them based on the strengths and limitations of each
technic. As we developed such a hybrid method, we also applied it into the A company. In this case
study, we introduced the detailed process and tools for the hybrid method and reviewed lessons learned
from the application in terms of 1) developing job structure, 2) conducting workshops for subject matter
experts to analyze job and extract job competencies, 3) verifying the results of job analysis and
competency model, and 4) developing the e-HRD system
