This paper is a preliminary study on Baek-Bul-Am(Choi- Heung-Won, 百弗庵, 崔興遠1705～1786)'s Neo-Confucianism, with main purpose of observing his lineageㆍlifetimeㆍworks and the studies of his Neo-Confucianism reported hitherto. His real name was Choi-Heung-Won[childhood name: Yeo-Ho(汝浩), adult name: Tae-Cho(太初). nickname: Old Man of 'Chil-Gye'(漆溪老人)]. His original pedigree was Choi of Gyeongju(慶州) with Go-Un, Choi-Chi-Won(孤雲崔致遠, 857～?) as the first family founder and Choi, Dan(崔鄲, ?～?) as a middle founder who was the Minister of Defense in the early years of the Chosun Dynasty. Baek-Bul-Am was born in the 32nd year of Suk-Jong(肅宗, 1675～1720, the 19th King of the Chosun Dynasty) and died in the 10th year of Jeong-Jo(正祖, 1777～1800, the 22th King of the Chosun Dynasty). Although he deserves a very important status, less attention has been paid to his works in the history of Neo-Confucianism, except for his Buindong-Dongyak(夫仁洞洞約) which had been runned for a self-governing community based on the philosophy of mutual assistance and morality for 100 years. Therefore, this paper tried to observe his lineage, career, works and the studies the researches performed hitherto to go over his thoughts of Neo-Confucianism with a fine-tooth comb, and to analyse the relative data of Baek-Bul-Am with objective point of view as much as possible, and also showed summarized charts relating to the subject. This paper suggests further studies on Baek-Bul-Am. For example, the deviations between several xylographic editions of 『the collection of Baek-Bul-Am's work』 (『百弗庵先生文集』 ) and 『the memoir of Baek-Bul-Am』 (『百弗庵先生言行錄』 ) should be compared and clarified. Also it is necessary to study the ancestral influence on his Neo-Confucianism.
