With respect to ?Jonduksungjaemyung尊德性齋銘?, the last chapter
of 『Simkyung心經』, Confucian scholars in the Joseon Dynasty had
a heated argument about which was more important, honoring the
moral nature and following the path of study. While compiling 『
Simkyungbuzu心經附註』 by adding detailed annotations and
proposals to 『Simkyung』 compiled by Jin, Deok-soo眞德秀, Jeong,
Min-jeong程敏政, who claimed Treatise on the Last Theory of Zhuxi
朱子 and Zhuryukjeolchungron朱陸折衷論, made it Zen Buddhistic禪
學的 and the trend is more severe in ?Jonduksungjaemyung? Chapter.
He divided ?Jonduksungjaemyung? Chapter into three stages, saying
that Zhuxi朱子 emphasized following the path of study in early years,
emphasized honoring the moral nature in middle years and
emphasized the balance between honoring the moral nature and
following the path of study by compromising with Lu Xiang-shan陸象
山 in later years. However, this is nothing more than a means of
Jeong, Min-jeong程敏政 to emphasize following the path of study.
Despite such Zen Buddhistic tendency of Jeong, Min-jeong’s 『
Simkyungbuzu』, Yi Hwang李滉, who carried out full-scale research
on 『Simkyung』, actively advocated this book and made it as important
as Saseosamgyeong. Therefore, Yi Hwang placed more emphasis
on the study of honoring the moral nature and if he had declared
that Confucian scholars should not read this book because of its
sign of Zen Buddhism, 『Simkyungbuzu』 would have been out of their
interest and disappeared without a trace. 『Simkyungseokui心經釋疑』, which is the Simkyung commentary in the Joseon Dynasty and
was written by Song, Si-yeol宋時烈, who is the representative of
the Kiho School畿湖學派, emphasized using both things at the same
time while more valuing following the path of study than honoring
the moral nature and 『SimKyeongKangRokGanBo心經講錄刊補』 of
Kim, Jong ?deok金宗德, the representative of Yeongnam School嶺南
學派 emphasized the balance of the two while more valuing honoring
the moral nature than following the path of study.
