In this study, the Delphi method was used to explore special education
professionals' opinions on the contents and directions of disability awareness
programs. A total of 15 special education professionals were selected and provided
their opinions three times. On the objectives of disability awareness programs, the
professionals emphasized nor only precise understanding of disability itself, but
also take active roles and attitudes toward disability-related issues based on
understanding disability and acceptance of diversity. Regarding the contents, the
professionals agreed on the importance of including diversity and human rights
related contents, as well as information on various disabilities. Finally, on the
education methods, the participants suggested divergent, creative, and innovative
teaching methods such as discussion, games, role plays, etc. Conditions and
requirements for effective disability awareness programs were suggested.
