This study set out to develop an instructional plan for integrated and repeated
instructions by utilizing Gukak pieces for appreciation, implement it during music
lessons, and investigate its effects on fifth graders' musical comprehension and
changes to their perceptions of Gukak. Lessons that applied integrated and
repeated teaching were given to 24 fifth graders in D Elementary School in
Incheon. After the lessons, the investigator collected data including the
questionnaire and checklist, student activity logs, interviews with students,
teachers' lesson observation journals, and teachers' checklists. The analysis
results led to the following conclusions: Finally, integrated and repeated teaching
by utilizing Gukak pieces for appreciation helped the students with their musical
comprehension and had them feel more familiar with Gukak. Moreover, the
students turned their negative perceptions of Gukak into positive ones and
became active participants in appreciation classes.
