This study was aimed to analyze actor’s presence and time on stage, especially focusing on Friedrich
Nietzsche’s ?bermensch. After 20th century, lots of acting method from other countries were introduced
and reviewed in Korean actor’s educational system. Almost all study on acting in Korea, however, focus
on the methodological aspect or special skills and spirit form foreign countries. In order to define ‘acting’
and ‘actors’, the aesthetical studying and philosophical analyzing of acting is necessary and even mandated.
First, I examine actor’s presence and time on stage. Actor’s time is creative moment as an aesthetic
subject and actor’s presence on stage is kind of presence of being on moment. Secondly I analyze the
concept of Friedrich Nietzsche’s ?bermensch and compare characters of actors. Consequently, I focus on
unstability, uncertainty and liminality of Nietzsche’s ?bermensch as the actor’s presence and time
This study would be a good philosophical trial to seek an identity of acting and actors to set ahead an
outlook of acting for better performance.
