In order to manage and conserve efficiently the nature and life of a nation, the best way
for it should be depended on an investment in the nature education for children. The place
that can be performed the efficient conduct on nature education for children is the Natural
History Museum or Nature Science Museum. But It is really hard to find the active
applications of children education in Korea even though there are some Natural History
Museum and some Institutes related with nature. The problem in Korea is now a few
number of Nature Museum and the absolute insufficiency of man power in these museum.
Nature Museum established already have to be transformed as one emphasized on education.
Also the number of Natural Museum have to increase in Korea continuously. Fortunately,
the nature education is opening in some Nature Museum in Korea recently even
uncomfortable circumstances.
The Natural History Museum, Hannam University, held the nature classroom for children
living in Taejon city mainly who are interested in nature from the early of 1998. Through
our classroom, we catched that the children quality is an important consideration in the
selection of subject and the proceeding of class. Firstly, children are very curious for any
kinds of things. Secondly, most of them like a living material. Thirdly, they are in the
active moving situation during classroom time and so prefer outside to inside. If children quality is reflected in educational program sufficiently, the classroom will be advanced one.
Nature classroom for children held in our museum this year was so successful even with
some trial and error. So we'd like introduce the contents of education program and some
problems of the management to here. We hope this report to be useful for the Nature
Museum considering of the practice of education program.
