“미술사박물관” 혹은 “미술박물관”은 미술관을 지칭하는 것으로 미술관의 역할과 전공분야 까지도 함축해서 설명해준다. ‘·美術館”이라 함은 博物館으로서 書畵. 影刻. 工藝. 建集. 寫힐 등 美術에 관한 짧내를 幕集. 보존 . 展示하고 이들을 調흉 . 鼎究하여 文化. 훌￡얘|한의 발전과 一般 公聚의 文化敎育에 이바지함을 目的으로 하는 것을 말한다. 이상은 “박물관 빚 미술관 진흥법 제 2조에 명시된 미술관의 정의로서 미국박물관협회와 세계박물관협회의 정의를 따른 것이다. 세계 3대 박물관， 미국뉴욕의 메트로폴리탄미술관 (The Metropolitan Museum of Art). 불란 서파리의 루불박물관 (The Louvre Museum). 영국런던의 대영박물관 (The British Museum) 중 두 곳은 art란 단어가 없이 그냥 museum 이라고 부르지만， 실상은 이 세 곳 다 미술관이다. 세 곳 다 일반적으로 생각하는 미술품 외에도 무기 ， 갑옷， 투구， 악기， 의상 등을 수집하여 소 장품의 성격이 무척 종합적이지만 이런 유물들의 전시는 그 목적이 전쟁의 역사나 음악의 역 사， 혹은 민속학적인 서술을 유도하려는 것이 아니라 이들 작품의 공예적 특성과 기교， 미술적 인 성취를 얄리는데 주력한다. 한국의 국립중앙박물관의 경우에는 미술부와 고고부가 있지만 실상은 미술사박물관과 고고학박블관을 한 울타리 안에 두어 온 셈이다. 국립중앙박물관의 미 술부는 미술사박물관의 역할과 기능을 수행해 왔고 앞으로도 타의 모범이 되어야 한다. 이러 한 맥락에서 볼 때 발표자가 대표하는 이화여자대학교박물관도 박물관이라 칭하지만 소장품의 성격과 전시목적으로 봐서 역시 미술관에 속한다. 이대박물관은 특히 도자기가마터 발굴에도 적극 참여하고 있다. 그러나 그 목적이 고고학적 연구， 고대사연구， 고대기술사， 생활사연구보 다는 도자공예의 기교적.예술적 발전과 성취를 연구하는데 중점을 두고 있다.
’ Art History Museum' or ’Museum of Art' means art museum and it explains the role and specialization of the art museum. When we make mention of art museum there is the assumption that it is the public institution. 1 think the professional personnel in the art museum is need to understand that the modern and contemporary history is not isolated but connected. And they should be able to reflect the recognition to collect, research and exhibit. In my opmlOn, the art historian must be looked upon as a most important person in the art museum by their perform, for example, the art historical comment and the art historical description. From my point of view, there are some activiteies scheme of the ’Art History Museum'. 1. They have to make an effort to pull down the wall between ancient and modern, ancient and present and the Orient and the Occident. 2. They must do their best to let people to understand the ancient art in present life and love it. 3. Education for people's sensibility is very important thing to the museum. 4. Every art museurn should take charge of the role in the international relationship. 5. The development of the professional training is a necessity condition to operate appropriately the art museum.
