In the 21st century, a number of museums in Korea keep increasing and
the management role has been changed from function mainly of past relics
to mainly for visitors. As the above, there are two kinds of museums : one
is a museum that keeps developing educational programs for various levels
of visitors in accordance with museum's environment changes and keeps
satisfying visitors' needs and expectations. the other is a museum that has
not considered the trend or public's wants so managed with past methods
and such museums have begun to create distance with publics.
This writer attempts to find solutions for museums problems in aspect of
visitors' needs and draw a detail conclusion through surveys based on Falk
and Dierking's experiences. The detail conclusion is we can attract children
to the Seoul Museum of history as developing and utilizing an educational
tool, worksheet.
Accordingly, I analyzed the results regarding worksheets as below :
First, both parents and children do not understand enough what the
worksheet is. Therefore, public relations for worksheets should be consistent
positively.
Second, this is to attract children to the Seoul Museum of history again,
in the future. Worksheets based on preference ways of parents or children
should be created, such as fairy tales, quiz, setting a seal, putting puzzles
and putting stickers which is recommended by many experts.
Third, worksheets that do not finish with just one time but successive
forms of series is necessary to be developed so that interest and curiosities
to be aroused.
Fourth, in realistic, continuing development for worksheets has limit for
permanent exhibit. Thus, if sustainable worksheets development for planning
exhibit, we can arouse children's interest and curiosities and it does mean
children would re-visit the museum. It may create huge educational effects.
For the last, after visiting museums, parents want to have souvenirs related
to museums. In case of children, they want to boast their worksheets. Such
things show modern people's minds in SNS(Social Networking Service)
society. In accordance with society's trends, we should consider visitors'
preferences and make strategies to develop worksheets. Then, I expect these
methods will attract many visitors to the Seoul Museum of history with easy
accessibilities.
