A museum is a multidirectional educational institution that deals with cultural heritage.
Museums that have great accessibility to the cultural site operate experiential learning
programs using the cultural site. Developing such experiential learning programs is
essential in terms of history education since it allows students to recall the school education
and helps them understand the history better.
This study selected and investigated the Seoul Museum of History, the Chunghyeon
Museum, and the Museum of Silhak among the institutions which currently operate the
educational programs related to the cultural site. Especially, through the analysis of
Children's Silhak Class at the Museum of Silhak, this study examines feasibility to improve
the educational programs related to the cultural site. As a result, the 'Children's Silhak
Class' was enjoyable and interesting though it needed to improve the level of understanding
about its curriculum and the suitability of its instructional method. Moreover, it was certain
that utilizing cultural site had a positive effect on the interest toward history education.
Consequently, operating various museum education related to the cultural site is
important since it inspires the public attention and provides children great field for history
education.
