This paper aims to brighten the meaning of 'Analogon' in Sartre's theory of imagination. In this purpose, this paper focuses especially on two problems. First, what is the reason for suggesting the concept of Analogon in the process of establishing his own image theory. Second, what the concept of Analogon means in the whole system of image theory. Sartre started with critical examination of theory of imagination in classical thoughts and noticed the mistakes in earlier works. The problem is that classical thoughts could not distinguish between objects and matters. To correct this, in other words to draw a distinction between objects and matters, Sartre examined whole process from the aspect of objects, matters, intentional activity of consciousness, motivations, and to of passive-to-active. Through this examination, consequently Sartre claimed that distinction in terms of matter is necessary to elucidating the nature of image-consciousness. And raised through this process is the 'matter(hyl?) peculiar to images', namely Analogon. Through the concept of Analogon Sartre established his original theory of image, and presented solution about non-reality paradox raised from concept of imagination.
