본 연구에서는 한국청소년패널조사(Korean Youth Panel Survey: KYPS) 1 2차년도 데이 터를 사용하여 중학생의 주관적 삶의 질을 결정하는 요인들 간의 구조적 관계를 분석하였 다. 구조방정식 모형 분석을 실시한 결과, 중학생의 주관적 삶의 질은 자아개념과 가정 및 학교 내 사회적 관계로부터 지대한 영향을 받는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 그리고 자아개념에는 가 정의 사회경제적 지위, 부모-자녀 관계, 학교에서의 교우관계 및 교사와의 관계가 유의한 영 향을 미치는 것으로 드러났다. 아울러 교우 및 교사와의 관계가 원만하면 궁극적으로 중학 생이 지각하는 주관적 삶의 질도 높아지는 것으로 판명되었다. 반면, 학업성취 수준은 삶의 질에 미약하나마 부적 효과를 발휘하는 것으로 나타났는데, 학생들이 상위권으로 발돋움하 고자 할 때 경험해야 하는 치열한 경쟁과 정신적 압박이 이 같은 결과와 밀접한 연관성을 갖고 있을 것으로 유추된다. 한편 다집단 분석 결과는 성별에 따라 주관적 삶의 질의 결정 기제에 다소 차이가 있음을 보여주었다. 대체로 남학생에 비해 여학생의 삶의 질은 학교 내 사회적 관계의 영향을 더 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 청소년의 삶의 질을 제고하기 위한 정책이 실효성을 갖기 위해서는 삶의 질 결정요인에서의 성차를 고려할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문초록

Drawing on first-second wave data from Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS), this study explores the structural relationships between the determinants of subjective quality of life of middle school students, and examines how the relationships vary by gender using structural equation modeling method. The results show that students’ self-concept and relationships with their family, peer students, and teachers exert a significant direct effect on their subjective quality of life. Students’ self-concept is in turn noticeably influenced by parental socioeconomic status and relationships with their family, peer students, and teachers. In addition, students’ positive relationships with their classmates and teachers tend to increase their quality of life. However, students’ academic achievement turns out to be slightly negatively associated with their quality of life, which can be attributed to fierce competition and pressure among those students with strong academic performance. Meanwhile, the results from multi-group analysis exhibit that the determinants of subjective quality of life of middle school students vary to some extent by gender. Specifically, subjective quality of life of female students appears more susceptive to social relationships within school than that of male students. It suggests that effective policy measures for increasing students’ well-being need to take into account gender differences in the determinants of subjective quality of life.
