The educational bipolarization between urban and rural area causes conflicts in society and has negative influence upon social integration. In order to develop the strategies for mitigating the educational bipolarization, there is required to understand the realities of the educational gap between urban and rural area. This study is to examine the level of educational bi-polarization between urban and rural area. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, national statistics on elementary and secondary education were collected from webpages and yearbooks on educational statistics. Results can be summarized as follows. First, the size of school between urban and rural area is polarized. Urban schools show an upward tendency in size, while rural schools show decrease in size. Second, family environment for supporting students' education is polarized. Urban family is affluent on economic, social, cultural capital related to education, while rural family lacks economic, social, cultural capital related to education. Third, community educational environment between urban and rural area is polarized. Urban communities provide their students with more access to private tutoring, while rural communities are suffering from a lack of opportunity of private tutoring. Fourth, there are large gap between the level of achievement of rural area and urban area. Urban schools are high in upper level of standardized achievement test, while rural schools are low in upper level of standardized achievement test.
