This study is to examine the current state of curriculum management at a music-focused school, and suggests ways to activate it. For these purposes, Y middle school and D high school in Seoul were selected. Interviews and class observations were conducted, and document data targeting the principal, chief teachers, teachers, and students were collected. Surveys were also conducted with the students. According to the results of the in-depth interview analysis, music-focused schools have attempted to nurture their students talents and aptitudes for art, and have put their efforts into intensifying personality education. This has led to a lessening of the costs of private education while adhering to the guidelines for curriculum organizing operations. The schools provided musical performance classes which are focused on practical techniques, and have also provided private lessons. According to the results of the survey, with respect to class attitude and satisfaction with school management and effectiveness, the average in a music-focused class was high above that of a normal class. These differences were statistically significant. Deepening and expanding the autonomy of the curriculum, a constant expansion of budget support, teacher work-load reduction, and more are recommended.
