사회복지사들은 사회복지실천 과정에서 윤리적 결정을 내려야만 하는 다양한 상황에 직면하게 된다. 그러나 실제 현장에서 다양한 업무를 수행해야 하는 사회복지사는 도덕적으로 옳은 일을 수행하기 위해 다각적으로 생각할 수 있는 시간적 여유가 없을 뿐 아니라 기관 차원에서 이러한 윤리적인 딜레마와 관련하여 해결할 수 있는 공식적인 통로가 없는 것이 현실이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 정신지체인과 함께 하는 기관에서 일상적으로 발생하는 기관의 규칙 준수와 클라이언트의 이익과 관련하여 윤리적 결정을 내리는 데 있어서 고려해야 할 사항들을 의무 개념과 본 연구의 사례를 이해하기 위해 정신지체인의 정의와 특성, 정신지체인의 사회적응 장애요인 및 직업재활에 대해 서술한 뒤 사례와 함께 사회사업의 실천 이론과 원칙, Reamer의 윤리적 결정과정을 토대로 본 문제의 딜레마를 분석하였다.
Social workers are confronted by various situation that expect them to make ethical decisions during their social work practice. However doing their various load of work in the field, social workers do not have enough time to consider diversified ways for carrying through with ethically right things, moreover, it is reality that there has been no official route they can take for solution to ethical dilemma in their position. Since many decisions concerned with client profit and institute profit are usually made by institute of the people with mental retardatation, the sense of responsibility and each instance should be carefully considered. Therefore the definition of the people with mental retardatation is in need of the description here. Then comes their peculiarity, the obstacle to the social adaptation of them and vocational rehabilitation. Come to the conclusion that the dilemma between client profit and institute profit is analyzed on grounds of the practical theory and the principle of social work as well as Reamer\'s process of ethical decision.
