슈타이너의 교육론은 오랫동안 교육사의 주류에 속하지 못했지만, 1990년대 이후 대안교육에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 교육학적 검토의 대상으로 부상하였다. 슈타이너의 학교교육 비판체계를 필두로 하는 교육철학은 자유 발도르프학교를 설립하고 이를 운영하는 교육실제의 기반으로 작용하였다. 슈타이너는 당시 학교 교육의 문제를 국가의 교육 지배구조, 물질주의의 학교침투와 지적 편중교육, 교실수업과 교사론의 문제로 구분 짓고, 이에 관한 비판적 논의를 통해 학교교육의 이상에 관한 독자적인 구상을 제시하였다. 슈타이너의 학교교육론은 끝없는 우주창조의 근원을 몸에 구현하고 있는 각각의 인간에게, 인간의 존엄을 되찾게 하려는 교육을 제안하고 실천하는 것이었다. 이는 프뢰벨로 대표되는, 통합 관념과 신성 개념을 중시하는 교육구상과 맥락을 같이하는 것이며, 이로써 보면 슈타이너의 교육철학은 중부유럽의 정신적 전통을 기반으로 하여 성립된 것이라고 말할 수 있다.
One of main reasons that Steiner\'s Freie Waldorfschule has watched since 1990s is considered to lie in the rise of alternative education which criticized the problems of schooling. Since that time, it has been considered as a new issue of schooling movement and focused as a new theme of educational study. However, lots of interest was given to just its educational practice such as school system, class management curriculum and method. This study aims to examine Steiner\'s philosophical view on education as theoretical background of the educational practice of Freie Waldorfschule. The core of Steiner\'s theory of schooling is supposed to lie in his view on humanity which intends to embody the origin of cosmic creation to individuals. He conceived anthroposophie as a theoretical and methodological system of life and education on the basis of this view and criticized the problems of schooling with reference to it. His understanding of humanity and proposal for schooling like this are estimated to originate from the source of thought of Pestalozzi and Froebel. Therefore, his philosophy of education can be characterized more clear in the stream of Central European intellectual tradition.
