The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of beginning elementary teachers through
mentoring program. Two elementary school teachers (1 female and 1 male) from W Elementary
School in a I Metropolitan area were the subjects of this study. Their lessons of teaching
elementary physical education were observed 5 times respectively from April of 2008 to November
of 2008. The data were collected through participant observation, interview, and document collection.
Individual case records and profiles were analyzed by Spradley's (1980) suggestion. Triangulation,
peer debriefing, member checks, and negative case analysis were used for the trustworthiness of
the data. The results were as follows. The changing processes of the teaching perspectives of the
two beginning teachers through the mediation processes of "making the familiar strange" and
"making the strange familiar". The category of "making the familiar strange" is composed with
‘new discoveries in physical education classes’, ‘teacher’s efforts for preparing’, ‘classes start
warm-up’, ‘motivation is the success or failure’. And the category of "making the strange familiar"
is composed with ‘class level for student consideration’, ‘promise of between teacher and student’.
