본 연구는 자립형 사립고등하교 교육수요에 영향을 미치는 학생과 학부모의 특성 요인을 다층 모형을 활용하여 분석함으로써 자립형 사립고등학교 교육수요에 대한 설명력 있는 틀을 제공하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해, 서울시 21개 중학교 3학년의 학생 665명, 학부모 627명의 자립형 사립고등학교 도입 정책의 효과에 대한 인식측면과 수요측면, 교육열, 학생의 학업능력, 현행 학교교육에 대한 만족도, 사호 경제적 배경 및 일반적 특성 변수를 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 자립형 사립고등학교 교육수요는 정책에 대한 인식이 긍정적이고, 성적이 높은 학생과 학부모에 의해 주도될 것으로 예상된다. 학생의 경우, 사회경제적 배경중에서 월평균소득만이 자립형 사립고등학교 교육수요에 부적 영향을 미치는 반면, 학부모의 교육수요에는 부의 직업, 학력, 월평균소득 모두가 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 학부모의 교육수요가 학생에 비해 경제적·현실적 요인에 의해 제한되고 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 또한, 자립형 사립고등학교 도입 정책은 평준화제도의 문제점에 대한 대안으로 제안되었으나 실제적으로 현행 학교교육에 대한 불만족이라는 부정 적 요인은 자립형 사립고등학교 교육수요에 대하여 유의미한 영향력이 없는 것으로 드러났다. 즉 자립형 사립고등학교 교육수요는 학생과 학부모의 대안적 선택에서 비롯된 것이 아니라, 수월성 추구를 위한 적극적인 노력을 반영하는 것으로 볼 수 있다.
The purpose of this study was to analyze how the characteristics of students and parents affect the educational demands for Independent Private High School by using Hierarchical Linear Model. To achieve this purpose, perception on policy effect, educational fever, academic attainments, satisfaction with the present school system and the socio economic status of 665 students and 627 patents from 21 middle schools in Seoul were surveyed. Conclusions were as follows: First, the demands for Independent Private High School were highest in a group of parents and students who had positive perception on policy effect and high academic attainments. Second, parents\' demands for Independent Private High School were affected by socioeconomic status. Students\' demand, however, was not limited by economic factors. Therefore, governmental supports are necessary so that student\'s demand can be substantial. Finally, Independent Private High School system was adopted as an alternative solution for the problem of educational equalization system. Actually, the factor of dissatisfaction with the present school system was proved to have no effect on the educational demands for Independent Private High School. This meant that demands for Independent Private High School did not reflect parents\' and students\' alternative choice against the present educational system, but showed their active efforts to pursue educational excellence.
