The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of braille instruction among high school students at the schools for the blind nationwide. To achieve this purpose, the questionnaires were distributed to 430 high school students at 12 schools for the blind all over the country, the 387 questionnaires of which were studied. The results of this research were as follows:
First, braille literacy of the students with visual impairments were shown to be low in every subjects except for Korean, especially, the students being less competent in reading than in writing. Examining these results according to each variable, braille literacy which the female students, those aged 16-19, those who began their school years from elementary course showed was proved to be high. In addition, the braille literacy of the students who were preparing for the college entrance exam and using electric braille devices was found out to be high.
Second, The type of braille instruction the students with adventious visual impairments prefer was turned out to be a short-term, intensified, and man-to-man instruction.
