Climate change education and STEAM education have been an important issue in the
field of education in Korea, but there wasn't a proper study about understanding and awareness
of elementary school teacher, who is actually an agent of education. Therefore, the purpose of this
study is to understanding of elementary school teacher's about energy and climate change education
and STEAM education. We extracted the contents of climate change from advanced studies and
literature, and made an questionnaire about methods, purpose and etc of STEAM education, to know
about awareness of STEAM education. We carried out a survey to 87 elementary school teachers
from 3 different cities, with the questionnaire we have made. The result of the survey was treated
by frequency analysis method. The result was like the following; First, elementary school teachers
were well aware of the necessity of climate change education. Second, they didn't know what
STEAM education is, but knew that the convergent method is needed in climate change education.
Third, the purpose of climate change education, which elementary school teachers have thought,
was corresponded to the purpose of STEAM education. Thus, we suggest that promoting, training
and other programs of STEAM education is necessary to the teachers in the field.
