This study examined what type of life-style was observed among golf tournament
participants and analyzed relations among participation motivation, golf Immersion, and
exercise adherence according to their types of life-style. The population consisted of
274 golf players that competed in the amateur preliminaries of GPC-Open Tour,
which took place in Cheongju, Chungbuk Province and Uiseong, Gyeongbuk Province
in August and September, 2013, respectively. They were sampled with the random
sampling method. Of the golf tournament participants, 250 male and female players
at the age of 20 or older were asked to fill out a questionnaire in the
self-administration method. After excluding 15 questionnaires whose answers were
insincere, total 235 were used as valid samples. The collected data were treated with
frequency, factor, reliability, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings
show that the life-styles of golf tournament participants had significant relations with
their participation motivation, golf Immersion, and exercise adherence. That is, it was
clearly demonstrated that golf players competed in a golf tournament with a goal and
experienced true Immersion, thus having their desire fulfilled, making enough
contributions to the improvement of their golf skills, having fun and interest by
competing against others, and further promoting friendship with the people around
them or their golf buddies. Consequently, they got to have a continuous
determination or will for exercise. The findings attest to the important effects of
lifestyle on participation motivation, golf Immersion, and exercise adherence.
