The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of social work practicum by examining influences of social work practicum on career development. Specifically, this study examined the relationships between the factors affecting social work practicum such as students, supervision, institution, and college, and the career development and professional consciousness of social welfare.
The targets for this study were arbitrarily chosen from among social welfare students in third and fouth grade with practicum experience. Answers from 280 respondents were analyzed for the study and the collected data were statistically processed through SPSS 12.0 Analysis.
The study showed that the levels of career development and professional consciousness of social welfare were little bit lower than average. The satisfaction levels of supuervision, practicum class, and student\'s major selection were significant predictors of students\' career development. Also, the satisfaction levels of supuervision, practicum class, and student\'s major selection and the appropriateness of practicum contents in the field were significant predictors of students\' professional consciousness of social welfare.
In conclusion, the quality of supervision and the substantiality of practicum class are very important for improving the levels of students\' career development and professional consciousness of social welfare. Finally, several theoretical and practical implications, suggestions for future studies, and limitations of this study were presented.
